Weird Rules

While going through the bbc website, which also happens to be my favourite I came across this weird stuff.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/7724347.stm

So this is how the other half lives, they have a regulation on how a cucumber should look like, ย how dumb. Does the shape of the vegetable matter or the nutrient content ? When people in third world country are dying of starvation, they let food rot because it does not meet the standards. Is this ย snobbishness of the developed nations. Or is it letting capitalism take over common sense?

  1. I don’t think it is capitalism – it doesn’t make commercial sense to throw 20% (or whatever the realistic figure is) of the food away or have to sell it as animal feed at a lower price.

I don’t think it is snobbishness either – although we are far too pampered in the main in my opinion!

I think it is just stupidity! Bureaucrats the world over are the same. You have to laugh really. What do you reckon?

On another subject, can I ask where you think the best place to drink tea is – thoughts on a postcard at http://discoverunearthed.wordpress.com

  2. It does make commercial sense to sell well proportioned vegetables, for twice the amount, in swanky supermarkets. What is 20% when you are making double the profit on the rest of the 80 %.

  3. Heh. As a non carrot eater, I couldnt care about the shape anyways. Just like our Indian government ๐Ÿ™‚

Plus, I’ll take meat over veggies anyday. And no, the shape of the animal dont matter either! (Edible animals only!) ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Edible animals ha ha ha. How do u define it ๐Ÿ™‚
I wouldn’t want our govt to care for it too, not like EU does ๐Ÿ™‚
You know I am a great fan of carrot ๐Ÿ˜€ of any shape or size

  5. Edible animals like chicken, mutton and so on. I didnt want anyone offering me snakes, frogs and lizards ๐Ÿ™‚

You like carrots??? Remember Anne of Green Gables? ๐Ÿ˜›

  6. :O Gilbert Blythe teases Anne in the first day of class by pulling on her red pigtails, saying – “Carrots!! Carrots!!”

Thats when she cracks her slate on his head in anger.

    You forgot?? :O
